Back Census: 2022 census
Census 2022: Nationwide collection of new data
The census serves as an important planning and decision-making basis for politics, administration and business. The basis for the census is EU Regulation (EC) No. 763/2008. All EU member states are obliged to carry out a census every ten years, at the beginning of each decade. The census planned for 2021 has been postponed to 2022 due to the corona pandemic. The deadline this year is May 15th.
The large population census collects, among other things, the number of inhabitants and data on demographics as well as the living and working situation. Based on these figures, infrastructure measures such as the construction of schools and day-care centers can be better planned. Last but not least, the census provides important values for science and is also used as the data basis for many official statistics. Basically, figures from the administrative registers of the municipalities are used. In order to improve the quality of the data collection, part of the population is interviewed in a household survey on a sample basis. The sample includes a total of 10,2 million people at 2,2 million addresses.
Building and Residential Census (GWZ)
A building and housing census (GWZ) is also planned as part of the census. Among other things, questions are asked about the building, the size of the apartment, the year of construction and the net rent. The responsible authorities will contact the landlord for this purpose.
